Multi - Organ Transplant Surgeon

The Hume-Lee Transplant Center at the Virginia Commonwealth University Health System is inviting applications from experienced, board-certified, liver transplant surgeons with at least 5 years of clinical experience post-fellowship to join a multi-organ (kidney, liver, pancreas) transplant program.

This is an academic multi-organ transplant surgery position in a mature transplant program with an ASTS-approved (liver, kidney) transplant fellowship training program, that is currently performing over 80 liver and 140 kidney transplants annually. A small number of kidney-pancreas and pancreas after kidney transplants are performed each year as well.

This position is a mid to senior career, non-tenure eligible position on the collateral track. Appointments will be at Associate Professor or Professor level.  Salary commensurate with experience. 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Position will require significant experience in liver transplants particularly in living liver donor transplants.
  • Will be expected to assist in leading the liver transplantation program under the direction of the Chair of Transplantation and the current Medical Director. 
  • Have strong interest in academic research and administrative duties.
  • Will be actively participating in teaching of students, residents and fellows.  

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • ABS  Board Certified in General Surgery or equivalent

  • ASTS Approved two year Transplantation Fellowship  or equivalent

  • Significant experience in liver transplantation including living donor, split liver and pediatric liver transplantation.

  • Teaching residents and medical students

  • Demonstrated competence in robotic surgery

  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU is required

  • 5 Years or more post-fellowship clinical practice

  • Demonstrated competency in liver and kidney transplantation with supporting role (management) in whole organ pancreas transplant
