The Children’s Hospital of Richmond (CHoR) at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA in conjunction with the VCU Massey Cancer Center are recruiting an established and funded investigator to be the Children’s Hospital Foundation Endowed Chair and Division Chief of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, and Transplantation. Candidates must be eligible for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor (tenure eligible), be Board Certified in Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, and have a strong track record of research funding. Candidates must also demonstrate leadership, vision and demonstrate experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
The Division Chief will be expected to be involved in clinical, basic science, epidemiologic, or translational research and in research mentorship as well as teaching and clinical care. There are significant resources to support the academic mission and research including startup packages and laboratory space. The Massey Cancer Center is an NCI Designated Cancer Center with strong research groups in cell signaling, molecular genetics, developmental therapeutics, radiation biology and prevention and control which provides multiple opportunities for transdisciplinary collaborative science and clinical translation. There are currently 120 active trials and another 187 with patients in active follow up. Cancer Center members hold leadership and steering committee positions in a wide variety of cooperative groups and study sections. VCU has been awarded a CTSA grant by the NIH.
Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at CHoR has a well-established Fellowship program. The division currently includes 9 full time faculty with interests in sickle cell disease, hemostasis, bone marrow transplantation, neuro-oncology, cancer survivorship and transitional care, etc. CHoR has the most active pediatric stem cell transplant and cellular immunotherapy service in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The division of stem cell transplant is an integral part of the Massey cancer center which has a long history of clinical and research excellence with a robust clinical and translational research program. The program is active in clinical and research activity in cellular Immunotherapy and CAR-t treatments. There are currently 15 open clinical including 8 phase I trials lead by our active developmental therapeutics team. We have a broad range of pathology resources with an emphasis on oncogenomic profiling, MRD monitoring and targeted therapeutics.
