Virginia Commonwealth University seeks a physician leader to serve as the Director of the Parkinson’s and Movement Disorders Center (PMDC) and the inaugural Beemis Distinguished Chair in the Department of Neurology. This is an exciting opportunity in academic medicine, with the potential to promote the sustained success of a trans?departmental Center. This opportunity is further enhanced by the ability to develop the Parkinson’s Disease Research, Education, and Clinical Center (PADRECC) at the Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Administration Hospital. The combination of the Center Directorship, Movement Disorders Chief, and affiliation with the PADRECC provides an opportunity to develop a transformational movement disorders program with national recognition. This position is supported by the Beemis endowed Distinguished Chair, reflecting the ongoing support of numerous generous andcommitted community members with connections to Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders.Rank is dependent upon qualifications and experience.
The Department of Neurology and SOM leadership have sought innovative approaches to position VCU as a recognized leader in the neurosciences. The new Chief and Center Director will have the opportunity to work closely with leadership to achieve this shared goal. With neuroscience research comprising one?third of VCU’s federal funding (ranking 28th in the nation for NIH neuroscience funding), the Department, and the PMDC, is a significant contributor to the health enterprise.
- Participation in teaching programs for medical students, neurology residents and fellows
- A history of scientific achievement and scholarly productivity
- Sustained NIH or equivalent research funding
- Should possess an MD/DO, completed residency training at an accredited institution
- BC/BE in Neurology
- Completion of a Movement disorders fellowship is required
- Ability to work in a team environment is essential
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a VCU Faculty member
