Virginia Commonwealth University, Department of Psychiatry in collaboration with the Department of Neurology is recruiting a board eligible or certified psychiatrist to participate in the care of patients with neurological disorders. The faculty member will be responsible for evaluation and management of psychiatric comorbidities in patients with a spectrum of neurological disorders. The psychiatrist will be a part of a multidisciplinary team caring for epilepsy patients, including those being evaluated for epilepsy surgery and non-epileptic events and those with comorbidities including mood disorders and anxiety and will also partner with other neurological care teams (headache, multiple sclerosis and neuromuscular and movement disorders). Experience in managing patients with functional neurological disorders is desirable, including experience with cognitive behavioral therapy. The faculty member will have the opportunity to participate in the education of psychiatry and neurology residents and fellows. There are numerous opportunities for collaborative clinical research.

Academic rank is commensurate with experience and scholarly accomplishment consistent with VCU requirements. Opportunities are available for joint appointments.

VCU’s Department of Psychiatry employs over 80 fulltime faculty and has well-funded research in genetics, addictions, child and women’s mental health, and psychopharmacology. The Department of Neurology has 50+ faculty members covering every neurology subspecialty in adult and child neurology, and includes award winning educators, clinical and translational neuroscientists, and master clinicians. VCU is a large urban university with robust health science campus and 750-bed university hospital. Richmond, the State Capital, has a moderate climate and a rich mix of history with modern facilities, excellent suburban housing, and public/private schools. Low cost of living.


  • Assists with teaching and training of fellows, residents and medical students.
  • Support and participate in numerous research collaborations within the PMDC and across
    multiple neuroscience departments.
  • Departmentally assigned committees, team leadership and Good Citizenship activities.
  • Clinical activities caring for patients.



  • BE/BC psychiatrist
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.


  • Experience in managing patients with functional neurological disorders is desirable, including experience with cognitive behavioral therapy.
  • Experience working in an academic setting.
