The VCU Department of Internal Medicine Rising Scholar Program is a unique opportunity to obtain dedicated training in Clinical and Translational Research, while progressing in your academic career in Internal Medicine and Sub-specialties and improving clinical skills.

The program is designed for individuals who are BC or BE in Internal Medicine, and will last 24 months with a start date of July 1, 2019. The program will combine formal training within the VCU Master of Science Program in Clinical and Translational Research with hands-on research experience under the tutelage of a dedicated mentor. The Scholars will be appointed as Clinical Instructor of Medicine within Internal Medicine and will work 14-16 hours per week (averaged over 4 weeks) within the Hospitalist Night Medicine Program. As part of the program and as Internal Medicine faculty, the scholars will receive an excellent benefit package, a competitive salary commensurate to the clinical load, a stipend for CME and other scholarly activities and a grant to support an approved research project.

At the end of the program, trainees are expected to be competitive for appointment to an Assistant Professor Faculty position and for a KL2 NIH training grant. Research opportunities are available in the following areas: Allergy/Immunology, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Hepatology, Hospital Medicine, Oncology and Pulmonary/Critical Care.



The successful candidate must be a physician that is Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine, with prior research experience and interest in a career in Academic Medicine.

Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
