Adult Inpatient Division Chief of Psychiatry F52380

The Department of Psychiatry at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) School of Medicine is seeking a Board Certified Psychiatrist to serve as Division Chair of its Adult Inpatient Services. The successful candidate will have a leadership role in the department and hospital, reporting directly to the Department Chair. The incumbent will be expected to have administrative, leadership, teaching and research experience.

The core responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, managing and directing a 42-bed adult inpatient unit, supervising and training residents and medical students, coordinating with hospital administration on best practices, some clinical duties, and developing/conducting research. Applicants should have a U.S. medical degree or equivalent (M.D. or D.O.), with licensure (or license-eligible) to practice in the State of Virginia and DEA licensure. Five to ten years of post-residency experience required and fellowship trained preferred. Successful applicants will have demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment, or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.

VCU Department of Psychiatry employs over 80 fulltime faculty and has well-funded research in genetics, addictions, child and women’s mental health, and psychopharmacology. VCU Psychiatry is ranked #19 by NIH for research funding and its residents and faculty are ranked #1 for teaching in VCU’s School of Medicine. VCU is a large urban university with robust health science campus and 750-bed university hospital. Richmond, the State Capital, has a moderate climate and a rich mix of history with modern facilities, excellent urban and suburban living options, and award-winning public/private schools, all with a low cost of living.
