Virginia Commonwealth University, Department of Psychiatry is recruiting for a general Psychiatrist to provide clinical care, consultations, and supervise/teach residents, fellows, and medical students.
This position will focus on providing direct psychopharmacology and psychotherapy outpatient care for the adult populations at VCU Community Memorial Hospital (CMH) in South Hill, Virginia, an affiliate of VCU Health. Under the supervision of the Chair and clinical leadership of VCU's Department of Psychiatry, the incumbent may serve as the medical director of CMH's new outpatient clinic and will work with a team of behavioral health staff at CMH and in the surrounding communities. Additionally the incumbent may provide clinical care at VCU Health's Jackson Center in Richmond, and as a VCU Department of Psychiatry faculty member, the position will have the opportunity to teach, supervise, and work with medical students, residents and fellows. The position may provide telemedicine and consultation/liaison services as applicable. While the primary focus of the position will be on the South Hill campus of VCUHS, the Psychiatrist will have a joint affiliation and membership at both facilities with some dedicated academic time on the main campus in Richmond. The incumbent will be encouraged to participate in collaborative research and the pursuit of scholarly work and professional development.
A successful candidate must be Board Eligible/Board Certified in Psychiatry, Virginia licensed or eligible, and have DEA licensure. The preferred candidate will have demonstrated clinical experience and demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a VCU faculty member. Experience in a community practice with an academic affiliation is preferred; however, an academic background with an interest in developing a community outpatient practice is also favorable. Academic rank is commensurate with experience and scholarly accomplishment consistent with VCU requirements. A competitive salary with fringe benefits, sign-on bonus, relocation allowance, and potential incentive payments are negotiable for the successful candidate.
VCU Health's Department of Psychiatry employs over 80 full time faculty, trains over 50 residents/fellows, and has a well-funded research portfolio. VCU is a large urban university with a robust health science campus and 750-bed university hospital. VCU's Community Memorial Hospital is a community owned nonprofit hospital, located 80 miles south (Interstate 85) of the main VCU campus in Richmond, VA and 80 miles north of Raleigh, NC in rural South side Virginia. CMH is dedicated to being the leader in health services for the south-central region of Virginia and portions of northern North Carolina, with a brand new 70 bed hospital and medical office complex that opened in November 2017. CMH provides a wide-array of outpatient services. Since its inception CMH has grown to be one of the largest employers in the area with over 800 employees, 200+ volunteers, 100 physicians, representing 30 medical specialties on staff and the area has a reasonable cost of living and is directly adjacent to 80,000 acres of recreational water from two lakes.
