Chief Purpose of Position:
To provide medical and/or surgical care and treatment to patients with chronic pain(s) as designated by the Anesthesiology Department Chairman and Medical Director/Program director for Chronic Pain. Provides diagnostic, therapeutic and/or preventive healthcare service including any or all of the following: histories and physicals; order and interpret tests; make preliminary diagnosis; treat injuries/illness; assist surgical procedures; counselling patients and/or prescribe medication as well as those invasive procedures defined by the Virginia Board of Medicine and designated by Medical Director/Program Director for Chronic Pain. Works collaboratively with the medical team to deliver organized, timely, cost effective and quality patient care. May supervise support staff and trainees including medical students, residents, and pain fellows.
The Chronic Pain Physician will provide patient care under defined departmental and state approved scope of practice.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Current VA license as a Physician by the Virginia Board of Medicine
- Current/Active DEA license
- Current CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications
- MD degree
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications where needed
- Credentialing in accordance with medical staff by-laws for specific job title
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Board Certification in Pain Management
- Three (3) years of previous clinical pain management experience
- Addiction/Substance Abuse clinical experience
