Mission or Goal of Unit:
The mission of the Department of Surgery is the pursuit of excellence in surgical care through constant innovation and education and to provide every patient with the best care. This position will reside in the Section of Community General Surgery under the Division of Bariatric and GI surgery.
Chief Purpose of this position:?
This position is a junior to mid-level, term, non-tenure track faculty position. The incumbent will provide support at the General Surgery practice in the VCU Health Tappahannock Hospital, a 67 bed hospital in Tappahannock, Virginia. The faculty member will support the Section Community General Surgery at VCU Health Tappahannock Hospital with teaching responsibilities at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Position Responsibilities:?
Clinical The primary clinical responsibility will be in the care of the general surgery patients at VCU Health Tappahannock Hospital, and possibly in other VCUHS clinics and operative locations. They will be responsible for the development of an active general surgery practice, with the support of the Division and Departments leadership.
Teaching The faculty member will have teaching responsibilities as a part of their role. Oversight of trainees as well as instruction in General Surgery and applied anatomy and physiology.
Research Faculty member may participate in research activities and/or collaborate with others on research projects and endeavors
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Board Certification or Eligibility in General Surgery
- Commitment to teaching and education of medical students and other trainees
- Ability to work in a complex matrixed environment with a high emotional intelligence
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU?
Preferred Qualifications
- Teaching experience at the undergraduate or graduate level.
