Mission or Goal of Unit:
The mission of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department is to provide the highest quality clinical care in both specialty and sub-specialty obstetrics and gynecology to patients in central Virginia. In addition to the clinical mission, the department has the allied goals of providing undergraduate and graduate medical education in the field and advancing the specialty through basic and clinical research.The Department faculty has a responsibility to provide service to their profession and to the University Community.
Chief Purpose of this position:
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is seeking a Division Chief to lead and manage the clinical, research, and educational programs for the Division of Maternal Fetal Medicine. The division has six Maternal Fetal Medicine subspecialists. The Division has a new ACGME approved Maternal Fetal Medicine Fellowship program whose first fellow started in 2024. The incumbent will have skill and experience in leadership and administration, and have a national reputation for clinical care, teaching, and research. VCU has a growing OB population with 3200 deliveries in 2024 and a Level 4 NICU that is expanding to 60 babies. The division practices the full scope of the subspecialty including an active in- and outpatient high risk obstetric service, including ultrasound, prenatal diagnosis, and fetal therapy.
Position Responsibilities:
Teaching | Teaching responsibilities to include actively participating in the departments educational activities, with particular attention to educating students, residents, and fellows in their core educational objectives in maternal fetal medicine.
Research | This position will lead the Divisions research program and initiate projects as well as participate in and facilitate other division members research and contribute to scholarly publications/presentations.
Service | This position will serve on departmental, hospital, and university committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field. The incumbent will be assigned to committees at the discretion of the department chair.
Clinical | Leadership and administration of the clinical practice and participation in the full clinical activities of the Maternal Fetal Medicine Division is expected. The division practices the full scope of the subspecialty including an active in- and outpatient high risk obstetric service, including ultrasound, prenatal diagnosis, and fetal therapy.
Other | In this role as Division Chief for Maternal Fetal Medicine, the incumbent will lead the Division, with responsibilities for growth of clinical volume and implementation of state of the science clinical programs, strategic planning, quality improvement, and fostering maternal fetal medicine related communication and relations within the Department, VCU Health, and community. The Division Chief is responsible for the career development of faculty in their division.
Required Qualifications:
- Completion of ACGME or ABOG accredited fellowship training in Maternal Fetal Medicine or its equivalent
- Ability to obtain an unrestricted medical license in Virginia
- Effective supervisory, leadership, and management skills
- Potential for scholarship or creative expression to complement and expand existing expertise in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology
- Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certified by the American Board of OB/GYN in Maternal Fetal Medicine
