Mission or Goal of Unit: Provide rehabilitation and neuropsychology leadership to the Commonwealth of Virginia with the goal of improving the quality of life for individuals with disabilities by maximizing independence in living skills and employment activities through innovative education, evidence-based research, and outcome-focused patient care.
Chief Purpose of this position: Provide adult and geriatric outpatient clinical neuropsychology and rehabilitation psychology services.
Position Responsibilities:
Clinical:
Primary: Providing neuropsychological assessment to adults with traumatic brain injury, stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and dementia among other disabling illness or injuries. Secondary: Providing health and behavioral interventions, including: psychoeducation and time-limited psychological interventions for improving adjustment to disability; behavior management; and other cognitive behavior targets.
Consultation to referral sources and interdisciplinary treatment team; collaboration related to patient's cognitive and behavioral strengths and weaknesses and neurobehavioral needs and issues; including development of intervention plans based on interviews, observations, and test findings to be implemented by the interdisciplinary treatment team Primary consultation services to PM&R, General Neurology, and Epilepsy Care Team.
Timely preparation and submission of documentation, including reports and progress notes; liaison between psychology staff, referring professionals, patient, and family; maintenance of practice credentials and completion of education as required by hospital, university, and state practice organization.
Teaching:
Teaching and training fellows, students, staff, and professionals, with regard to clinical neuropsychological evaluations and treatments.
Research:
Assisting and supporting on-going funded rehabilitation and neuropsychology research and participating in the dissemination, including writing of articles and presentations.
Service:
Participating in university and department committees as requested. Engaging in activities sponsored by advocacy and service organizations for persons with disabilities.
Required Qualifications:
- Required Qualifications: Doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA or CPA-approved program, including an APA or CPA-approved internship.
- Completion of a postdoctoral clinical neuropsychology fellowship as indicated by 24 months supervised post-graduate experience consistent with the Houston Conference Guidelines in a neurotrauma, neurology, or rehabilitation practice settings.
- Experience with adults and geriatric assessments, to include interviewing, cognitive, psychological, and neurobehavioral assessment. A Virginia state licensure or license eligibility and board certification eligibility.
- Effective oral and written communications, leadership skills, and is a U.S. citizen or work eligible. Ability to work in a team environment is essential.
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience providing and developing patient education programs.
- Experience providing time-limited psychological intervention to improve emotional adjustment to disability.
- Experience with interdisciplinary rehabilitation treatment team collaboration.
