Mission or Goal of Unit: The mission of the Department of Neurology is to provide state of the art comprehensive patient centered neurological care for adults and children, perform translational and clinical research to further understanding of disease mechanisms and develop new treatments, and train the next generation of neurologists and clinical neuroscientists. Chief Purpose of this position: This position is an Open Rank (rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications) full-time faculty position in the Division of Child Neurology. This position will also serve as the Division Chief of Child Neurology. The faculty member must be board eligible or certified. The faculty member will provide patient care, engage in medical student and neurology resident and fellow education, and participate in clinical research.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead a multi-disciplinary child neurology program
  • Direct patient care and clinical support functions, including clinical algorithms and pathways as well as providing oversight for program safety and quality
  • Oversee all aspects of neurological care of child neurology patients
  • Identify and stimulate meritorious and fundable basic science-based and translational/clinical research in child neurology diagnoses, including multi-investigator grants
  • Recruit additional academic clinicians and translational and clinical investigators

Required Qualifications:

  • MD or MD/PhD degree (or equivalent)
  • Successful completion of a neurology residency and child neurology fellowship at accredited institutions
  • Eligibility for licensure in Virginia and board certification or eligible in Neurology (ABPN)

  • An outstanding clinician
  • Strong history of basic, translational, and/or clinical research demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications and extramural grant funding
  • Demonstrated track record of active participation in multidisciplinary clinical programs focused on patient-centered care
  • Ability to thrive and lead in a growing, complex and matrixed environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build consensus and cooperation among various stakeholders
  • A team builder who can mentor and direct others in research initiatives
